Bengaluru: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has warned owners of vacant sites that they could face cleaning and waste transportation charges running into lakhs of rupees if they fail to keep their properties free of accumulated garbage, waste and debris by August 15, 2026.

In a public notice issued as part of the “Freedom from Waste” campaign being conducted during August 2026, the GBA said owners of vacant sites within its limits must ensure that all waste, garbage and debris accumulated on their properties is removed on or before August 15 and disposed of only at designated locations identified and notified by the Municipal Corporation.

If necessary, owners may also avail waste collection and cleaning services of agencies notified by the respective Municipal Corporation, the notice said.

The GBA warned that if owners fail to clean their vacant sites by the deadline, the Municipal Corporation will undertake removal of the waste and debris and recover the expenditure from the property owners along with property tax in accordance with the relevant bye-laws and the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024.

According to the schedule of charges in the notice, cleaning a 20 ft x 30 ft vacant site measuring 600 sq ft will cost ₹6,700 without a compound wall and ₹7,700 with a compound wall, while waste and debris transportation will attract an additional ₹19,200.

For a 30 ft x 40 ft site measuring 1,200 sq ft, the cleaning charge is ₹13,400 without a compound wall and ₹14,400 with a compound wall, with ₹38,400 charged for transportation of waste and debris.

For a 30 ft x 50 ft site measuring 1,500 sq ft, cleaning charges are ₹16,750 without a compound wall and ₹17,750 with a compound wall, while transportation charges are ₹48,000.

Owners of 40 ft x 60 ft sites measuring 2,400 sq ft will be charged ₹26,800 for cleaning without a compound wall or ₹27,800 with a compound wall, in addition to ₹76,800 towards waste and debris transportation.

The highest specified slab applies to 50 ft x 80 ft sites measuring 4,000 sq ft. Cleaning will cost ₹46,700 without a compound wall or ₹47,700 with a compound wall, while waste and debris transportation will cost ₹1,28,000. This means the combined cleaning and transportation charge can reach ₹1,75,700 for a 4,000 sq ft site with a compound wall.

For sites exceeding the dimensions or area specified in the schedule, expenditure proportionate to the site area will be recovered, the notice said.

The directions have been issued under the “Freedom from Waste” campaign with the stated objective of keeping Bengaluru clean, beautiful and liveable. The GBA has placed the responsibility on vacant-site owners to maintain their properties in a clean and hygienic condition.
