GBA Chief Commissioner Reviews Shivajinagar Site After Attack on Officials During Footpath Clearance Drive
Bengaluru, July 21: Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao visited Shivajinagar on Tuesday to inspect the site where officials were assaulted during a footpath encroachment clearance drive earlier in the day.
The clearance operation began around 10 am near the Shivajinagar bus stand but was temporarily suspended after officials were allegedly attacked during the drive. GBA personnel later lodged a complaint at Commercial Street Police Station.
Following police action and assurances that those involved would be arrested, GBA officials resumed the demolition drive. Using two JCB machines, authorities completed the second phase of the operation and removed the remaining encroachments along the stretch.
Officials allowed some shopkeepers time to remove their belongings, while the remaining materials and debris were cleared using tractors.
The Chief Commissioner supervised the resumed operation at the site until the clearance drive was completed. More than 10 people have been arrested in connection with the attack on officials, and police have said action will be taken against all those found involved.
The area witnessed heavy police deployment during the resumed operation to prevent any further law and order issues. Authorities said the footpath clearance drive was successfully completed after being briefly interrupted by the violence.
