UDUPI/BENGALURU: Renowned underworld figure Bannanje Raja has returned to Udupi on emergency parole to pay his final respects to his late father, Sundara Shetty. Bannanje Raja’s request for parole was approved by the High Court, albeit with stringent conditions.

Currently serving a life sentence at Belagavi’s Hindalga Jail for his involvement in 23 criminal cases, Raja’s parole is valid from May 3 to 14, during which he is only permitted to participate in the funeral proceedings.

Udupi SP Dr. Arun Kumar emphasized that Raja is under constant police surveillance and has been explicitly instructed not to interact with any associates. The use of mobile phones and the internet is strictly prohibited, and he is confined to his residence except for attending the funeral rites. Once the parole period concludes on May 14, Raja will be escorted back to the Belagavi jail.
