Bengaluru: The Karnataka Legislative Assembly has officially revoked the disqualification of MLA G. Janardhan Reddy following an order from the Telangana High Court that suspended his conviction and sentence in a criminal case.
A notification issued by the Legislative Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday confirmed that the High Court, on June 11, 2025, had passed an order in Criminal Appeal No. 564/2025, suspending Reddy’s conviction and imprisonment related to a 2012 CBI case. Reddy, who represents the Gangawati constituency, was previously convicted by the Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, Hyderabad, in a judgment dated May 6, 2025.
In light of the High Court’s latest decision, the disqualification imposed on Reddy under Article 191(1)(e) of the Constitution and Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, as per an earlier Assembly notification dated May 8, 2025, has been rendered inoperative.
The Assembly clarified that the revocation of disqualification is subject to further judicial decisions. The notification was signed by M.K. Vishalakshi, Secretary of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
