He followed lone woman on bike, snatched mangalsutra worth Rs 3.7 lakh
BENGALURU:
The Peenya police have arrested a Tamil Nadu-based interstate chain snatcher and have recovered a gold chain worth Rs 3.7 lakh.
The accused was identified as Jayakumar alias Jaya (39), a native of Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu and a resident of Sompura in Banashankari, Bengaluru. He was reportedly a former IBM team leader.
On August 13 at around 7.40 pm, a woman named Siddagamgamma was passing by Indiranagar Circle towards the Nelagadaranahalli main road, en route to a friend’s house warming party at Griha Lakshmi Layout.
The accused, who was on a bike, took advantage of the quiet locality and snatched her gold mangalsutra gold weighing around 60 grams. He also pushed her to the ground.
The injured victim was helped by passers-by and treated at Sparsh Hospital. She later lodged a complaint with the Peenya police station.
