Monitor penises and sea fans seized from ayurvedic stores

BENGALURU:

Karnataka Forest Department officials seized a large number of wildlife parts on Wednesday, following a raid on Ayurvedic and Vanaspati stores in Bagalkot, Bilagi and Jamakhandi towns.

Those arrested for illegal sale of monitor penises and sea fans (Gorgonians) are Eerappa Bundeppa Jarali, Pavan Eerappa Jarali and Basappa Siddagiri from Bilagi, and Sanmeerappa Jambanna Vibhuti from Jamakhandi.

The raid, under the aegis of the Chief Conservator of Forests (Vigilance), as per Schedule 1 of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, resulted in the seizure of 79 Bengal monitor penises and 503 sea fans that were meant for sale.

The officials also seized a car and 2 two-wheelers.

The raid was conducted by Belagavi forest staff, headed by DCF Manjunatha Gowda, with the assistance of Bagalkot forest staff. The team included forest officials Chandrasekhar Patil, Huddar, Suresh Nayak and Mahantesh, under the guidance of Seema Garg.
