KAUP (MANGALURU):

Two youths, who had come from Bengaluru to the Kaup beach, drowned in the sea on Sunday.

Police said on Monday that the deceased have been identified as Karthik (22) and Roopesh (21).

Three others– Dilip, Likith, and Jayanth were rescued by the lifeguards.

Despite warning by lifeguards, the youths had ventured into the water. All of them were washed away by the strong waves.

According to a report from Mangaluru, in another incident, lifeguards at Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project rescued two youths from drowning on Sunday evening.

Yatish Baikampady of the project said on Monday that the lifeguards were posted at the beach keeping in mind the safety of the visitors during the weekend.

Sharanappa (35) from Itagi and Nagaraja H S (18) from Jokatte had come to the beach along with a group of friends from Bengaluru.

The duo washed away in the rip current when they ventured into the sea for swimming. The lifeguards who were at the spot were successful in rescuing them. (Agency)
