Expert Committee on Landslides Submits Final Report to Karnataka CM

The expert committee appointed to study landslide hit regions submitted it’s final report to Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa here today.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister said that The Government of Karnataka had constituted an expert committee headed by Ananth Hegde Ashisara, chairman, Karnataka Biodiversity Board to study the landslides hit places in Western Ghats.

The Committee has submitted its report today after conducting a detailed study on landslide hit areas.

The Committee has provided guidelines for the protection of rivers and valleys in the vulnerable areas of Western Ghats and the coastal region. It has also given several significant scientific suggestions and relief measures for the prevention of landslides, he said.

The committee has made numerous recommendations for the prevention of landslides, relief measures and reconstruction.

KSNDMC has identified 23 taluks in the State which are prone to landslides, he said.

The committee has recommended to strengthen the District Level Diaster Management Committee.

It has also recommended to prepare an action plan pertaining to prevention of landslides.

The Government of Karnataka will examine the recommendations and take necessary steps, the CM said.

Ananth Hegde Ashishara, chairman of the expert committee and Karnataka Biodiversity Board and members of the committee were present.
