Bengaluru: Residents of HSR Layout, Bommanahalli, Hongasandra, Mangamanapalya and Singasandra who miss the morning garbage collection can use an evening collection service being tried out from 5 pm to midnight, as Bengaluru South City Corporation seeks to curb roadside garbage blackspots.
The pilot covers five wards: Ward 174, HSR Layout; Ward 175, Bommanahalli; Ward 189, Hongasandra; and Ward 190, Mangamanapalya in Bommanahalli division, and Ward 191, Singasandra in Bengaluru South division.
Residents in these wards are urged to hand over their wet and dry waste separately to the collection vehicles during the evening service, helping prevent waste from accumulating along roadsides.
An option for households that miss morning collection
Commissioner K.N. Ramesh, who personally inspected the trial, said collection vehicles had been instructed to operate between 5 pm and midnight to accommodate people unable to hand over waste in the morning.
The arrangement is intended to help employees leaving early for work, school and college students, homemakers and others whose schedules do not match the morning collection rounds.
According to the corporation, residents welcomed the evening service, saying it offered a convenient alternative when they could not give their waste to the morning collection autos.
Five wards covered by the pilot
- Ward 174 — HSR Layout: Bommanahalli division
- Ward 175 — Bommanahalli: Bommanahalli division
- Ward 189 — Hongasandra: Bommanahalli division
- Ward 190 — Mangamanapalya: Bommanahalli division
- Ward 191 — Singasandra: Bengaluru South division
Ramesh said 160 waste-collection vehicles operate in these five wards in the morning, while 20 to 25 autos are being used for the evening collection.
In Hongasandra alone, 31 autos operate in the morning. The evening service has six vehicles — three for wet waste and three for dry waste, he said.
The trial is aimed at making waste collection more accessible while reducing the roadside dumping spots that develop when households miss the regular collection.
Parking proposal near Agara Lake
During the inspection, the Commissioner also reviewed traffic congestion and parking problems around Agara Lake in HSR Layout.
He directed officials to inspect the unused space beneath the flyover in front of JSS Public School and submit a proposal to develop it into an organised vehicle-parking area.
AGM Nethravathi and RWA representative Dr Shanti were present.
