Bengaluru, May 28: Karnataka politics witnessed a major symbolic moment on Thursday when Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar touched Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s feet and sought his blessings during a crucial breakfast meeting hosted at the Chief Minister’s official residence ‘Kaveri’.

The visuals of Siddaramaiah warmly embracing Shivakumar immediately after his arrival have triggered intense political discussion, with Congress leaders attempting to send a message of unity amid ongoing speculation over leadership transition in the state.

Photographs from the meeting showed Siddaramaiah greeting Shivakumar with a hug, after which the Deputy Chief Minister bowed down to touch the Chief Minister’s feet before both leaders proceeded inside for discussions.

Political observers described the visuals as highly significant, particularly at a time when speculation over power transition and possible change in leadership has dominated Karnataka politics.

Sources said Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar held a separate closed-door meeting for over 30 minutes before joining other ministers for breakfast discussions. No staff members, aides or ministers were reportedly present during the one-on-one conversation.

According to Congress insiders, the two leaders are believed to have discussed the evolving political situation, possible leadership transition and strategies to ensure smooth functioning of the government during the next phase.

The symbolic gesture by Shivakumar is being viewed within political circles as an attempt to reassure Siddaramaiah’s supporters and send a message that any transition within the Congress would happen without confrontation or bitterness.

Political analysts also believe the gesture was aimed at reinforcing unity within the party and preventing any perception of division among various communities and support bases associated with senior Congress leaders.

Congress leaders have so far avoided making official statements regarding any leadership change, but the political significance of Thursday’s visuals has intensified speculation over imminent developments within the Karnataka government.

The breakfast meeting comes amid heightened political suspense over Siddaramaiah’s future role and growing discussions around D.K. Shivakumar potentially taking over leadership responsibilities in the state.

Party sources said maintaining coordination between both camps would remain crucial for political stability and smooth governance in Karnataka going forward.

The visuals from Thursday’s meeting are now being widely interpreted as a carefully calibrated political message from the Congress leadership signalling continuity, coordination and controlled transition within the party.
