BENGALURU: Even as the Metro construction work is going on at several places across the city, questions are being raised about structural strength and its quality. Hence, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has come forward to conduct quality checks.
In Bengaluru, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is working on the Metro line on the Airport Road, from Jayadeva Hospital up to Central Silk Road. It is being said that cracks were found in slabs laid near the Jayadeva Metro Hospital. Hence, the IISc Civil Engineering Department will conduct thorough tests on the concrete structures.
Dr Chandra Kishen, Professor at IISc, said, “We are going to test many materials, including Metro pillars, slabs, iron, and concrete. The report will be submitted after confirming its quality and the strength of the structure. If the report is positive, it will be helpful in continuing the work. In case we find some differences in quality, further testing will be taken up and Metro construction work may have to be suspended till they correct the faults”.
