67 new cases take Karnataka tally to 1,462
State’s discharge rate is an encouraging 39%

A 43-year-old man from Bengaluru Urban succumbed to Covid-19, even as 67 new positive cases raised Karnataka’s tally to 1,462.
The deceased has been named as P1236 and had a travel history of Vellore. “P-1236, 43 years, male, resident of Bengaluru Urban, history of hypertension and myocarditis with inter-state travel history of Vellore, Tamil Nadu. Admitted on 18.05.2020 at private hospital, Bengaluru and died on 20.05.2020,” said the health department bulletin.
As per sources, P1236 was admitted at a private hospital near Electronics City where he breathed his last. This is Karnataka’s 41st Covid death and Bengaluru Urban’s ninth, an official said.
Meanwhile, 67 new coronavirus cases emerged in the past 24 hours in the state. On Wednesday, cases spiked in Hassan, Kalaburagi and Bidar, among others.
Across the state, 1.66 lakh samples were tested for Covid-19, out of which 1.64 lakh tested negative.
Among the new cases, Hassan contributed 21, followed by Bidar (10), Mandya (8), Kalaburagi (7), Udupi (6), Bengaluru Urban, Raichur and Tumkur (4 each), and Yadgiri, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada (1 each).
Among the new cases, 33 are men and the remaining 34 women. Of the new cases, 49 had an inter-state travel history, mostly to Mumbai, India’s Covid hotspot.
Of the 1,462 cases, 10 per cent are senior citizens, 63 per cent are men and 37 per cent are women. The state’s patient discharge rate is an encouraging 39 per cent.
