Customs nab 3 Dubai-returned passengers
In a major breakthrough, customs officials seized foreign cigarettes and cosmetics worth Rs 6 lakh at Bengaluru International Airport on Saturday.
Air customs officials tweeted, “The seized cigarettes were brought from Dubai and after detailed examination of the baggage it was revealed that the cigarettes did not have COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act) labelling.”
Based on the profiling of passengers, customs officials intercepted three passengers who had arrived from Dubai on January 23.
“Detailed examination of their baggage revealed that they were carrying foreign manufactured cigarettes (Dunhill) without the COTPA labelling, in addition to foreign origin cosmetics in commercial quantities — without declaration to the customs,” the officials said.
The cosmetics and around 29,940 cigarette sticks were valued at around Rs 5.98 lakh.
