BENGALURU:
Things have come to such a pass in the Covid situation in the state capital that a BBMP corporator threatened self-immolation if the officials did not respond adequately to the medical needs of his ward.
On Friday, Yeshwanthpur (ward 37) corporator GK Venkatesh came with a can of kerosene to the RR Nagar BBMP Joint Commissioner’s office and threatened to set himself ablaze if his demands were not met. So far, Yeshwanthpur has seen 72 corona cases and 5 deaths.
“We don’t have doctors or nurses to handle the situation. There is only one doctor and one nurse,” he reportedly said, and demanded PPE kits, additional doctors, ASHA workers and nurses for the ward.
RR Nagar zone officer Jagdish placated the corporator, saying BBMP would address all the issues of the ward. But Venkatesh still managed to have the last word, warning that he would take the extreme step if BBMP did not keep its word.
