BENGALURU:
In a move that will allay the fears of citizens, BBMP will henceforth not seal areas where less then 3 Covid positive cases have been reported.
However, the civic agency has also decided to mark the ‘affected’ houses or flats by pasting posters on the wall of the house. In other words, there will be no barricading of an entire street if less than 3Â infections are reported from there.
Speaking to TheBengaluruLive, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad said, “Only isolated cases, that is individual houses and flats, will be sealed. Only posters will be put outside for awareness of neighbours.”
According to Prasad, the new system will be adopted from Tuesday. Prasad has reportedly directed BBMP engineers to adhere to the new guidelines issued to them on Monday.
It may be recalled that TheBengaluruLive in its August 17 edition had published a story titled ‘Are BBMP containment zones a mega scam?‘, (Read here: https://thebengalurulive.com/are-bbmp-containment-zones-a-mega-scam/) which had highlighted daily rentals of around Rs 70,000 and a possible final bill of a whopping Rs 2,300 crore.
Prasad said, “The decision on a containment zone will be made only if there are more than 3 cases within 100 metres. If there are no more than 3 cases reported, the street will not be sealed.”
