Bengaluru, May 2: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has directed officials to complete all ongoing road asphalting works in West and South zones by the end of May, while also strengthening monitoring mechanisms to ensure timely execution.

Chairing a review meeting with officials from Bengaluru West and South city corporations, Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao emphasized the need to fast-track road development works and complete pre-monsoon preparations without delay.

He stated that arterial and sub-arterial roads, along with ward-level infrastructure works, are being carried out under state government funding, and priority must be given to completing footpaths and drainage works before final asphalting.

Quality Checks and Monitoring
Officials have been instructed to personally inspect completed road works to ensure quality standards are maintained. At the same time, ongoing projects must be closely monitored to ensure timely completion.

To streamline supervision, Rao directed the creation of a Project Monitoring Dashboard, where details such as RFIs, quality certificates, and site photographs must be uploaded daily for real-time tracking of progress.

Pre-Monsoon Preparedness
With the monsoon approaching, officials have been asked to prioritize drainage cleaning, desilting works, and waste clearance in flood-prone areas. Locations that experienced waterlogging during recent rains must be identified and corrective measures completed within two days to prevent recurrence.

Tree Debris Clearance
Following recent heavy rains and strong winds, several trees and branches have fallen across the city. Rao instructed authorities to deploy additional private teams if required to ensure immediate clearance of all debris left on roadsides.

Lake Development Plan
In South Zone, officials have been asked to identify lakes suitable for development and prepare a comprehensive action plan for their rejuvenation.

Officials’ Inputs
West Zone Commissioner Dr. K.V. Rajendra stated that contractors have been directed to clear construction debris immediately after completing road works. He also stressed the installation of mandatory safety signage and equipment at work sites.

South Zone Commissioner K.N. Ramesh added that steps have already been taken to accelerate asphalting works and undertake repairs of damaged roads across the zone.

The meeting was attended by senior engineers, officials, and contractors, with a focus on ensuring faster execution, quality control, and public safety ahead of the monsoon season.
