Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has issued a stern warning to civic officials, stating that repeated negligence over potholes and roadside debris will invite direct action against commissioners and engineers.

“Every year potholes are forming, and this cannot continue. If during my next city rounds I see the same garbage or debris piled up on the roadside, action will be taken directly against the commissioners of the concerned corporations,” Siddaramaiah declared.

The CM revealed that a state executive engineer has already been suspended for substandard pothole repair work on Hennur Road, where only jelly stones were used without proper cement, tar, or wet mix. “Such negligence will not be tolerated,” he said.

On Hennur Road’s white-topping project, Siddaramaiah pointed out that contractor Inayath has been given responsibility for maintenance. With the government spending ₹13 crore per kilometer on the project, he granted the contractor 30 days to ensure all potholes are filled and motorable standards are restored.

Siddaramaiah stressed that the Congress government will not blame the previous BJP regime but will take responsibility to complete pending works. “We will close all potholes before the monsoon ends. Commissioners and chief engineers will be held accountable for failures,” he said, adding that strict monitoring will continue across five city corporations.
