BENGALURU:
The government is seriously considering relocating several of its offices from Bengaluru to the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said at a meeting of the Department of Public Works, Port and Inland Waterways on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister said work on flood-damaged roads and bridges should be completed on priority. Repair work has been undertaken at a cost of Rs 500 crore, and out of 1,800 damaged roads, 1, 700 have been repaired.
At the meeting, it was decided to upgrade the state’s 1,650 km of rural roads and 10,110 km of district main roads as state highways. A total of 4,813 km of highways are being constructed at a cost of Rs 30,675 crore.
The Technical Committee of Retired Officers of the department is working on a uniform rate list for engineering work, and Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol said the department can save hundreds of crores for the government if such a list is adopted.
The Chief Minister suggested building a one-metre pit at the base of bridges for groundwater recharging and drinking water for livestock, as per Central guidelines.
