The experts had suggested that the government re-open Classes IX and X as well as PUC 1 and PUC 2, but the Chief Minister decided to start the re-opening process with only Classes X and XII.
Yediyurappa announced the government’s decision through Twitter and later briefed media. His statement reads, “Starting January 1, 2021, 10th and PUC 2, and for 6th to 9th Classes, a Vidyagam project will be initiated. Decision on starting the other classes would be considered after analysing the situation for the next fifteen days after commencing Class 10 and PUC 2.”
Schools in Karnataka have been shut since March 24 because of the coronavirus-induced lockdown. In the intervening period, the government faced opposition whenever it proposed to re-open schools as Covid-19 cases were on the rise.
