Chickpet shops to open with alternate-day formula

BENGALURU:

After nearly 34 days, shops are all set to open in the Chickpet area, following a meeting of traders with civics officials.

An order issued by BBMP chief N Manjunatha Prasad reads: “The shops will open on alternate days. Eg., on a given day, the shops located on the left side will open and shops on the right side will remain closed. The next day, shops on the right side will open and shops on the left side will remain closed. The associations will monitor this arrangement. All shops will work with 50% of their staff.”

The decision to reopen the shops was taken after traders met Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya and Chickpet MLA Uday Garudachar.

“We got the BBMP order issued to reopen the markets in Chickpet first thing on Monday morning. The market had been sealed since June 24 and traders from Chickpet met me last week requesting that their shops be reopened,” said Surya in a Facebook post.

“Immediately after their request, we met BBMP Commissioner Manjunatha Prasad and submitted the plan for the reopening of the markets in a calibrated manner,” he added.

“We stand by small businesses. If any trader faces any issue, you may bring it to our notice. We are always there to support you,” Surya said.
