New Delhi: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has rejected a claim that a new 5% GST has been imposed on e-commerce delivery services, saying the rate has instead been reduced from 18% to 5%.
Delivery services, including those provided through food apps, were previously taxed at 18%, CBIC said. The reduction to 5% follows a recommendation of the 57th GST Council meeting, it added.
All delivery services provided through e-commerce platforms are now taxed uniformly at 5%, according to the board. Its clarification addresses the tax on delivery services.
CBIC described the claim circulating on X as factually incorrect and urged users not to spread incorrect information. It said the change represents a reduction in tax rather than a fresh levy.
