Recently, Tunga the Doberman travelled 11 km to corner a murder accused
Meet ‘Tunga’, the canine Sherlock Holmes who has helped the Davanagere police solve 60 cases, including 30 murders.
Tunga, a Doberman member of the police dog squad, recently followed an 11-km trail to corner a murder accused. For this feat, he was ‘congratulated’ by no less than ADGP Amar Kumar Pandey.
Nine-year-old Tunga, who joined the police force as a puppy, has by now traced accused persons in 30 murder, 25 theft and 5 dacoity cases.
Recently, a person named Chandra Nayak had been murdered at Sulikere hills. The search for the accused began at around 9 pm on July 10, and Tunga followed the trail of the suspect all the way till Thanda in Kashipur.
When cornered, Chetan, a resident of Nagarakatte, confessed to the murder. He reportedly said he had borrowed Rs 1.70 lakh from the victim. Worried that Nayak would go to the police, he and his accomplices told the victim to collect his money and shot him at the rendezvous point.
The pistol used in the murder was allegedly stolen on June 20 from a house in the Vidyagiri police station limits in Dharwad.
