Staff dump bodies onto makeshift pyres

BENGALURU:

Despite the nationwide furore over earlier incidents of Covid victims’ bodies being unceremoniously dumped into pits, the health staff in the state seem to have learnt no lessons.

A video that has gone viral shows the bodies of 2 Covid victims being dragged out of an ambulance and pushed onto makeshift pyres at the Belagavi Palike’s cemetery in Sadashiva Nagar.

Though the video shows the attendants in PPEs, Belagavi cemetery staff and ambulance drivers complain that they are not provided with PPE kits or masks.

One ambulance driver reportedly told a TV channel that they ferry 4-5 corpses every day, but they have not been provided any safety equipment.
