BJP, JD(S) Assign Constituency-Wise Roles for Joint Contest in Four Karnataka Legislative Council Seats
Bengaluru: The BJP and JD(S) have decided to jointly contest four upcoming Karnataka Legislative Council seats and announced constituency-wise responsibilities for their leaders, BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra said after a meeting of the two parties in Bengaluru.
The elections cover teachers’ constituencies and two graduates’ constituencies. Vijayendra said the parties had resolved to coordinate their efforts with the objective of winning all four seats.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said a special discussion had been convened with BJP and JD(S) leaders to prepare for the Council elections. Union ministers Pralhad Joshi and H.D. Kumaraswamy, senior party leaders, district presidents and other functionaries participated, he said.
“The BJP and JD(S) must contest together in all four constituencies. We have decided to work together with the aim of winning all four,” Vijayendra said.
He said the meeting had also announced which leaders would be responsible for each constituency, taking the joint election effort forward through an allocation of responsibilities.
The discussions extended beyond the immediate Council elections. Vijayendra said the two parties had discussed conducting joint agitations in the coming days and their broader objective of bringing an NDA government to power in Karnataka.
Vijayendra Targets Congress Government
Vijayendra also criticised the Congress government, alleging that legislators belonging to the ruling party were losing confidence in the Chief Minister.
He claimed that the Chief Minister was struggling to exercise control over the administration and that dissatisfaction was emerging within the ruling party itself.
Referring to a letter from the Finance Department, Vijayendra alleged that it had exposed the government’s financial difficulties. He claimed that the treasury had no money and accused the D.K. Shivakumar-led Congress government of limiting itself to announcements.
These statements formed part of Vijayendra’s criticism of the administration following the BJP-JD(S) meeting.
Vijayendra said the parties had discussed how to continue working together, both in electoral contests and through joint political campaigns. The immediate focus, he said, was a coordinated contest in the four Legislative Council constituencies, alongside preparations for future joint agitations.
