Bengaluru: Bengaluru South City Corporation is mapping more than 300 key locations and civic properties and linking them with lease and rental records, aiming to identify expired agreements, review rents under the rules and improve timely revenue collection.
The digital register will bring together GPS-based property locations, boundaries, building measurements, photographs and tenancy details. The initiative was discussed at a meeting of the corporation’s technical advisory committee chaired by retired chief engineer S. Somashekhar.
The committee also examined a proposed underpass at Marenahalli Junction, alongside Madiwala Lake development, junction improvements and the management of civic and public assets. The underpass remains under consideration, with its advantages and drawbacks discussed at the meeting.
Lease expiry dates and rents in one register
Details of properties leased or rented out, lease agreements and memoranda of understanding, expiry dates and prescribed rental rates are being entered into the software, the committee said.
The objective is to make it easier to detect properties whose lease periods have ended, revise rents in accordance with applicable rules and collect revenue on time. The committee said the system would help prevent unauthorised management of civic properties and revenue leakage.
GPS mapping from schools to commercial premises
The mapping exercise covers more than 300 important locations and assets, including schools, hospitals, playgrounds, commercial premises and community halls within the corporation’s jurisdiction.
Each property is being recorded on a digital map at ward, division and zone levels. The software will hold the extent of the property, building dimensions, boundary markers and photographs, providing officials with a consolidated record of the asset.
Mobile app for on-site verification
A dedicated mobile application is being prepared for officials carrying out field inspections. Engineers will be able to visit properties and upload updated information on their physical condition, photographs and documents from the site.
The committee said management of the digital public-asset register would subsequently be handed over to the corporation’s engineers after suitable training.
Marenahalli underpass proposal examined
The committee discussed an underpass at Marenahalli Junction to ease vehicle movement on 11th Main Road. It said the proposal could benefit vehicles arriving from Silk Board via the double-decker corridor.
The corporation’s statement did not announce a final approval, project cost or construction schedule for the underpass.
The meeting was attended by technical advisory committee members Prof. Anjaneyappa of RV institutions and Dr. Shivakumar G. of Dayananda Sagar institutions, along with the corporation’s chief engineer Basavaraj Kabade, Malathi and other officials.
