Bengaluru: Bengaluru South City Corporation has cleared encroachments and taken possession of 3 acres and 13 guntas of government land opposite Banashankari temple, valued by the civic authority at approximately ₹100 crore, Commissioner K N Ramesh said.
The land in Survey No. 73 of Sarakki village has been allotted for construction of the corporation’s headquarters. The operation removed unauthorised sheds and other encroachments; people occupying another portion of the same survey number were directed to vacate, according to the corporation.
Earlier APMC allotment cancelled
The government had previously allotted the parcel to the Karnataka Agricultural Marketing Department for its fruit and vegetable division associated with the APMC. The corporation said that allotment was cancelled because the land had not been used for the purpose for which it was granted.
On September 3, 2026, the government allotted the land to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) for construction of the city corporation’s headquarters. The clearance secures the site for that proposed facility; the corporation’s statement does not announce completion of a headquarters building.
Sheds removed; other occupants told to vacate
Acting on the commissioner’s directions, a team led by Planning Division Executive Engineer Mahantesh inspected the site and used earthmoving machinery to remove the unauthorised sheds and encroachments.
The team also issued strict directions to people who had constructed unauthorised buildings at another location within Survey No. 73 to vacate the corporation’s land immediately.
Ramesh said the operation had brought the GBA-owned parcel under the corporation’s control. Legal action would be taken against anyone encroaching on the site in future, he warned.
