Bengaluru: Doddagubbi recorded 138.5 mm of rain and Horamavu-2 99 mm in the rainfall data available up to 6.30 am on Thursday, as waterlogging slowed traffic on northern and eastern Bengaluru routes and civic officials sought a location-by-location plan for recurring flood points.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) figures shared with The Bengaluru Live show markedly different readings across Bengaluru Urban: Jakkuru logged 82.5 mm, Yelahanka 77.75 mm, Sarjapur 53.5 mm, Varthuru 34 mm and Hoodi 26.5 mm. These are individual station readings, not a citywide rainfall total.

Bengaluru Traffic Police reported slow movement at Kannuru junction towards Bagaluru Road and at K Channasandra towards Bileshivale. In Whitefield, police warned of slow traffic after rain and deployed additional personnel along the Varthur–Gunjur stretch.

13 Bengaluru Urban Entries at 50 mm or More

A count of the supplied station list shows 13 Bengaluru Urban entries recording at least 50 mm. Doddagubbi was the highest reading in the supplied Karnataka list, followed by Chinnakote at 110.5 mm and Doddavolagamadi at 102 mm, both in Kolar district’s Bangarapet taluk.

Within Bengaluru Urban, the higher readings were concentrated in stations listed under Bengaluru East and Yelahanka, with Sarjapur in Anekal also crossing 50 mm. Jakkuru-2 recorded 79.5 mm, Chowdeshwari 67 mm, Krishnarajapur 66.5 mm and Avalahalli 62 mm.

The 6.30 am cutoff is important: the supplied extract does not specify the accumulation start time. It should therefore not be described as a confirmed 24-hour total or directly compared with a different reporting window. Separate gauges labelled Horamavu and Horamavu-2, or HAL Airport and HAL Airport-2, are retained as separate readings.

Waterlogging Slows Two Northern Routes

The city traffic police’s morning advisories identified waterlogging at Kannuru junction on the movement towards Bagaluru Road and at K Channasandra towards Bileshivale. Both advisories described slow-moving traffic; neither announced that the entire route was closed.

The police photograph accompanying the Kannuru advisory shows cars, two-wheelers and an autorickshaw passing through standing water. The K Channasandra photograph shows vehicles, including a bus and two-wheelers, on a waterlogged road.

Gunjur Club Road Closure Adds to Whitefield Pressure

Whitefield Traffic Police identified three factors affecting the Dommasandra–Gunjur–Varthur–Whitefield stretch: the closure of Gunjur Club Road, prevailing road conditions and increased inbound traffic. Motorists were asked to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, maintain lane discipline and follow personnel’s directions.

A separate update said personnel from other traffic police stations had been mobilised and deployed at key points along Varthur–Gunjur. Another advisory described traffic as extremely slow because of post-rain road conditions and asked commuters to drive or ride carefully. The emergency number given was 112.

These advisories describe conditions when the police issued them on Thursday morning. They do not establish that every affected stretch remained waterlogged throughout the day or that clearance work had been completed.

Vidyashilpa Underpass: Corporation Flags Unanswered Action Requests

Bengaluru North City Corporation Commissioner Pommal Sunil Kumar chaired a 9 pm review meeting after the rain, according to the corporation’s statement. Officials reviewed previously identified waterlogging points and low-lying vulnerable areas, including where water had accumulated and where it had been removed quickly.

The corporation said Vidyashilpa underpass falls under the National Highways Authority’s jurisdiction and that its engineering division had written several times seeking remedial action, but the necessary work had not been taken up. The commissioner directed coordination with the authority to resolve the problem. This is the corporation’s account; a response from the highways authority was not included in the material supplied.

Engineers were instructed to prepare a consolidated list of waterlogging points, flood-prone locations and underpasses, recording the problem at each site, action already taken and works needed for a permanent solution. The statement did not provide completion deadlines for individual works.

Round-the-Clock Control Room, Warning of Disciplinary Action

Sunil Kumar directed officers to remain on duty in the control room around the clock and respond immediately to public complaints and emergencies. He warned of disciplinary action for failure to perform control-room duties and asked officers to promptly answer calls from residents, senior officials and ministers.

Additional Commissioners R. Latha and Pallavi, Joint Commissioner Mohammed Nayeem Momin, Chief Engineers Raghavendra Prasad and Yamuna, and other engineering officers attended the review.

Rain Beyond the City

In Bengaluru Rural, the supplied list recorded 62.5 mm at Doddaralagere, 58 mm at Mutsandra, 52 mm at Kumbalahalli and 50 mm at Doddahulluru, all in Hosakote taluk. Dodda Tumkur in Doddaballapura logged 46.5 mm. Elsewhere, Halebidu in Mandya and Malalur in Chikkamagaluru recorded 89 mm each.

For the previous evening’s drainage and underpass response, read our earlier Bengaluru rain report. Its earlier rainfall reporting window is separate from this morning’s KSNDMC figures.
