Bengaluru: City police have warned residents against responding to suspicious bank transaction alerts that ask them to reply YES or NO to an unfamiliar debit. They advised customers to verify the message directly with their bank instead of acting under pressure.
In an advisory, police described how fraudsters use WhatsApp or SMS messages resembling bank alerts to create urgency. Responding can expose a recipient to further fraud attempts, the advisory said.
Verify the message directly with your bank
Customers should check their bank’s official app or contact verified customer care, avoid unknown links and suspicious attachments, and block and report suspicious senders.
Anyone who suspects financial fraud should immediately contact their bank and report it through the cybercrime helpline 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in, police advised.
