Bengaluru Police Detain 105 Suspected Illegal Foreigners After Verifying Nearly 2,900 People: Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh
Bengaluru: Bengaluru City Police said the phone allegedly used to record a purported sting video had been recovered and seized, while one accused linked to procuring the device was arrested in the National Capital Region on October 24. Forensic checks into the recording’s authenticity, integrity and technical aspects are underway, and the report is awaited.
In its October 29 update on CCPS Crime No. 56/2026, police said preliminary evidence indicated a fabricated narrative, while the depicted sexual-abuse incident and allegations remained unsubstantiated. Everyone appearing in the video had been identified and examined, some repeatedly, according to the statement.
Sting video timeline and digital trail under examination
Police distinguished between the purported incident in 2011, the alleged recording in 2023 and uploads to YouTube, X and other platforms during September–October 2026. The 12-year gap, the creators’ roles and motives, and possible staging, fabrication or manipulation are being examined.
Investigators said anonymous accounts had used VPNs, masked IP addresses, virtual or spoofed numbers and other concealment methods. Digital traces pointed outside Karnataka. A phone used for a YouTube upload was traced to a used or refurbished phone shop in Delhi, and people linked to its procurement had been identified, police said.
Arrest and further leads
The accused arrested on October 24 appeared to be a freelance social-media creator, police said. Possible links to politically connected people in New Delhi and their relevance to the case were being investigated. No identities were disclosed in the update.
Police said leads suggested an attempt to discredit state officials and influence public opinion and stir political controversy and public discord. Possible coordination in planning, facilitating, uploading and amplifying the video with malicious intent remains under investigation, along with the full creation, possession, transfer and circulation trail.
People had been identified and lawful notices issued, police said, adding that names were being withheld to protect evidence and further proceedings. The force urged the public and media to avoid unverified allegations and premature conclusions while the investigation and forensic examination continue.
