BENGALURU: Kempegowda Nagar Police Station Inspector Shivajirao and Sub-Inspector Shivanand have been ensnared in a corruption scandal involving the Lokayukta. Acting on credible information, the Lokayukta conducted a raid yesterday evening, catching both officers red-handed while attempting to accept a bribe of one lakh rupees. The raid was prompted by a complaint from Kesavamurthy and was led by Lokayukta SP Srinath Joshi.
During the raid, Lokayukta officials seized the one lakh rupees that were offered as a bribe. This incident marks a significant fall from grace for the two officers. The bribe was demanded from a suspect involved in a fraud case. In 2020, Kesavamurthy deceived Uttamchand by promising him a bar license in the Excise Department in exchange for 1.30 crore rupees and one kilogram of gold. However, Kesavamurthy failed to deliver the promised license, leading Uttamchand to file a complaint.
Despite an FIR being filed at the Kempegowda Nagar police station, Inspector Shivajirao and Sub-Inspector Shivanand allegedly conspired to accept a bribe of six lakhs to assist the accused. Following Kesavamurthy’s complaint, the Lokayukta conducted a raid.
