DC cites govt order of April 16 banning all kinds of religious functions
BENGALURU:
The Bengaluru Urban district administration has cancelled the Karaga festival in the city. The age-old fest was scheduled to be held from April 19 to 27.
Deputy Commissioner J Manjunath, while issuing the order, referred to the state government’s April 16 directive banning any kind of religious ceremonies.
He said that, considering the state government’s order, it was not possible to conduct the ‘Draupadi Karaga’ ceremony at the Sri Dharmaraya Swamy Temple in Tigalarpet, amid the surge in Covid-19 cases in Bengaluru city. Hence, all such public religious activities have been prohibited, he said.
