Bengaluru: A devastating fire triggered by an LPG cylinder leak completely gutted a house in Choudeshwari Nagar, Laggere, leaving an entire family homeless and causing losses estimated at around ₹25 lakh.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning around 10:30 AM, shortly after a new gas cylinder was delivered and connected. According to preliminary accounts, the fire originated from the regulator while cooking was underway. Within minutes, flames engulfed the entire house, reducing everything inside to ashes.

Scene from the spot show extensive destruction — doors, windows, furniture, and household appliances including a refrigerator, television, sofa, and washing machine were completely burnt. Even the ceiling and fans were damaged due to intense heat and smoke, while glass windows shattered under the impact.

The family members, who had painstakingly built their home and collected belongings over the years, are now left with nothing. Essential items, including food grains and kitchen supplies, were also destroyed in the blaze.

In a critical moment, the homeowner acted swiftly by carrying the burning cylinder outside, preventing a possible explosion that could have caused a much larger tragedy. His quick action likely saved lives, including that of a child who was inside the house at the time.

“We had just received a new cylinder in the morning. Within 10 minutes of lighting the stove, the regulator caught fire. We rushed the children outside, but couldn’t control the flames. Everything is gone,” the homeowner said, expressing distress over the sudden loss.

The fire also caused damage to two additional houses on the second floor of the building, while the upper floor reportedly escaped major impact.

Fire and emergency services rushed to the scene after being alerted, and police have registered a case. Officials from the gas agency also visited the spot, with senior officers expected to conduct further inspection.

With no alternative arrangements in place, the affected family has appealed for government assistance to rebuild their home and recover from the massive financial setback.
