150 docs will man the country’s biggest facility for asymptomatic cases
BENGALURU:
The Bangalore International Exhibition Centre situated on Tumkur Road has become the largest Covid Care Centre (CCC) in the country, with BBMP converting it into a 10,100-bed facility. It thus overtakes New Delhi’s Covid Care Centre of 10,000 beds in the Radha Soami Satsang premises.
The CCC was converted into a 10,100-bed unit on a war footing. The Chief Minister’s political secretary and Yelahanka MLA SR Vishwanath visited BIEC on Sunday and took stock of the situation.
As per sources, the BIEC unit is well-ventilated and has an adequate number of toilets, nursing stations, kitchens and other required facilities. “The centre is ready to house asymptomatic patients, including children,” said an officer.
Meanwhile BBMP’s Joint Commissioner (Solid Waste Management), Sarfaraz Khan told news agency PTI, “This is the biggest-ever Covid Care Centre in the country. Delhi has one of 10,000 beds at Radha Soami Satsang.” As many as 150 doctors will man the centre. Oxygen facilities will be availablefor patients who need it, he said.
Bengaluru has seen huge spikes in coronavirus cases in the past one week. The city has witnessed 8,167 active. It has has so far reported 145 deaths due to the virus.
