Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is sending a clear message to property owners in the Yelahanka Zone: build according to the approved plan or face the consequences. Today, the BBMP, under the direction of Yelahanka Zone Commissioner Karigowda, demolished unauthorized or excess construction on 12 buildings across the Yelahanka and Byatarayanapura Assembly constituencies.
This decisive action targets property owners who have flagrantly violated sanctioned building plans by adding unapproved floors and other illegal structures. The BBMP is committed to upholding building regulations and ensuring the safety and structural integrity of buildings within the zone. The demolitions spanned multiple wards and involved various types of violations, including:
- Construction of additional floors without approval: Numerous buildings had illegally added floors exceeding the permitted limit outlined in their sanctioned plans.
- Construction without any plan approval: Several properties were found to have been built without any approved building plans, often on “B” Khata sites where permissions are restricted.
- Deviations from approved plans: In some cases, buildings deviated from approved plans, necessitating the removal of the non-compliant sections.
- Specific Examples of Violations Addressed: The BBMP’s press release detailed specific instances of illegal construction. For example: Yelahanka Assembly Constituency: At Property No. 24, Shivanahalli Main Road, an unauthorized third floor was demolished. Similarly, unauthorized third floors were removed from Property Nos. 3 & 4 and 15 & 16 in Muneshwara Layout. Byatarayanapura Assembly Constituency: At Property No. 790/964/1, Srirampura, several unauthorized floors were demolished on a building that exceeded its approved height.
In Kodigehalli, an illegal fourth floor was removed from Property No. 08, 2nd Cross, Balaji Layout. Owners Given Opportunity to Comply Prior to the demolitions, the BBMP issued notices to building owners in violation, giving them the opportunity to rectify the illegal construction themselves. While some owners initiated voluntary demolition, the BBMP took decisive action where compliance was not forthcoming.
The cost of the BBMP-led demolitions will be recovered from the respective property owners. Strong Warning Issued Commissioner Karigowda issued a stern warning to all property owners in the Yelahanka Zone: adhere strictly to approved building plans. Any deviation will result in immediate demolition of unauthorized structures, along with the imposition of penalties.
The demolition operations were overseen by key officials, including the Joint Director of Town Planning, Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers, and Assistant Directors of Town Planning.
