At least 50 Covid cases in each of 198 BBMP wards; mind-boggling 9,815 active containment zones

BENGALURU:

With the dreaded coronavirus affecting all 198 wards in the BBMP limits, the warning signs are unmistakeable: Bengalureans should think twice before stepping out of the house.

Of the 198 wards, there are more than 50 active cases in 160 wards, and more than 100 cases in 28 wards. In more than 30 wards, the infection rate is more than 80 per cent.

There are now 11,638 containment zones in Bengaluru, of which 9,815 are active containment zones.

Will West Zone surpass South Zone?

Bengaluru West and South zones have reported almost 50% of all positive cases, with 21% and 26% respectively. In the last 24 hours, the West zone has reported more than 420 cases, and in the last 10 days 3,476 infections.

People still reckless

Echoing the growing panic among Bengalureans, a resident of Koramangala said, “On Tuesday, the Chief Minister announced that Bengaluru will not have another lockdown. It was very nice to listen to and we started going to our offices on Wednesday. But while returning home, I saw some houses in my lane already marked as containment zones. Most of the lane is shut and yet one does not see social distancing or covering of faces.”
