Following staff protest, DC assures tight security

BELAGAVI:

Protesting the attack by the kin of a deceased patient on doctors and other health workers on Wednesday night at a Belagavi district hospital, the hospital staff threatened to boycott Covid-related work if adequate security was not provided.

On Wednesday night, an ambulance was set ablaze and some private vehicles damaged by angry relatives who alleged the patient had been neglected.

The deceased was a resident of Ghee Galli and was not given treatment till his Covid- positive result came on Wednesday. He died before treatment started, an official said.

In the fracas, a house surgeon’s hand was fractured and 3 staff nurses were beaten, a serving doctor at Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) told theBengalurulive.

On Thursday morning, nurses, doctors and non-medical staff protested in front of the hospital, demanding protection.

Deputy Commissioner MG Hiremath visited the hospital and assured the staff of proper security.

Meanwhile, ADGP (Law and Order) Amar Kumar Pandey has taken note of the incident.
