Garbage panacea? Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd is born
Bengaluru: Bellandur and Marathahalli are among five Mahadevapura-zone wards that Bengaluru East City Corporation has declared free of garbage blackspots following inspections and clearance work on October 29.
Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar said the declaration covered Ward 32–Channasandra, Ward 34–Kaverinagar, Ward 42–Priyadarshini, Ward 45–Marathahalli and Ward 47–Bellandur. The corporation said the status reflected the sanitation conditions observed during the inspections.
Assistant Executive Engineer (Health and Sanitation) Jyothi G. inspected the wards on October 29, identifying places with accumulated garbage, illegal dumping and sanitation problems. Waste was removed from the identified blackspots, according to the corporation’s release.
The corporation said preventing garbage from returning to cleared locations remained a priority. It would focus on collection at scheduled times, stronger door-to-door collection and continued monitoring of public spaces. Officials and sanitation staff were regularly checking cleared sites, Sudhakar said.
Residents were asked not to dump waste along roadsides, on vacant plots or in public places, and instead hand it to authorised collection vehicles. Public cooperation and awareness were needed to stop blackspots from recurring, she said.
The declaration is the corporation’s assessment following the October 29 inspection; maintaining that status will require continued collection and monitoring.
