Bengaluru: In a major blow to international narcotics smuggling networks, Bengaluru Customs officials at Kempegowda International Airport intercepted a high-value drug consignment originating from Thailand and arrested two passengers.

The seizure was made on Tuesday after customs officers identified and intercepted two passengers arriving from Bangkok based on profiling and intelligence inputs. A detailed inspection of their checked-in baggage led to the recovery of 11.03 kilograms of high-grade Hydroponic Ganja, a premium variety of cannabis.

According to officials, the contraband was carefully concealed within personal belongings in an attempt to evade detection. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth approximately ₹3.86 crore in the illicit market, underlining the scale of the attempted smuggling operation.

Following the recovery, both passengers were immediately detained. A case has been registered against them under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused are part of a larger international drug syndicate and to trace possible links within India.

Customs officials stated that the seizure highlights continued efforts to clamp down on cross-border drug trafficking and reiterated that surveillance at international airports has been intensified to prevent Bengaluru from being used as a transit or destination hub for narcotics.
