BJP’s civic poll mode apparent as CM does the unveiling honours
With the ruling BJP in poll mode as BBMP council elections approach, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa is following a ‘high-profile’ routine by inaugurating several projects across the state capital.
On Thursday, he unveiled a plaque renaming the Ananda Rao Circle flyover after 19th century freedom-fighter Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna. Earlier, he garlanded a bust of the legendary freedom-fighter. The CM had announced the renaming decision on Republic Day this year.
The BDA-planned flyover, thrown open to the public in 2006, has a carriageway 647 metres long and 14 metres wide. Close to Majestic, it links the western and CBD areas of Bengaluru.
Significantly, Sangolli Rayanna is considered an icon of the backward Kuruba community, whose prominent members are former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, BJP leader K S Eswarappa and Vishwanath, who quit the JDS to join the BJP.
Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayan,Urban Development Minister Byrathi Basavaraj, Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao, who represents the Gandhinagar assembly constituency, BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad and Mayor Goutham Kumar were present.
