The waste-management enforcement action at Al-Shifa Polyclinic.
Bengaluru: Al-Shifa Polyclinic on Mangammanapalya Main Road has been fined ₹15,000 after municipal inspectors linked medical waste dumped in a roadside public space to the clinic, according to Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh.
The corporation said the fine was imposed and collected on the spot for unauthorised waste disposal and failure to comply with solid-waste management and bulk waste-generator requirements.
Prescription slips used to trace waste
Junior health inspectors carried out a morning inspection of waste disposal in Srinivagilu and along Mangammanapalya Main Road in the Ejipura area of the BTM Layout division, the corporation said.
They found medicine packets, medical waste and mixed garbage discarded beside the road. Prescription slips and other documents found among the waste established its connection to Al-Shifa Polyclinic, according to the corporation.
Disposal through authorised agencies
Officials instructed the clinic’s doctors and staff to dispose of waste scientifically through authorised agencies in accordance with the rules. They warned against dumping medical or solid waste along roads in a manner that could endanger public health.
Ramesh said hospitals, clinics, laboratories and commercial establishments must comply with solid-waste and biomedical-waste rules. Regular inspections would continue, with heavy fines and legal action against those who illegally dump waste, he warned.
