Bengaluru: Karnataka is willing to provide additional land for an aircraft engine repair unit, Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said, stating that the State had agreed to an initial request for 100 acres and had subsequently been asked for 500 acres.
Speaking to reporters near the PES College helipad in Mandya, Shivakumar said the larger request had come two days earlier. His remarks came in response to a question about Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy writing that the State was not providing land for the unit.
State ready to provide more land, says CM
Shivakumar said the government had already offered 100 acres and was prepared to provide more land as required. He rejected the suggestion that the State was not cooperating.
“Let them start the work first. After that, we will provide as much land as required,” he said.
Farmer opposition must be considered
Asked about land for the unit, the Chief Minister said those seeking it should identify the land they wanted. The State was ready to acquire and hand it over, he said.
He also acknowledged that farmers oppose acquisition at some locations and said decisions on acquiring land must take that situation into account.
