Violators will face criminal charges cum fine
BENGALURU:
Smoking and spitting in public places is no longer legal in Karnataka. On Saturday, The state government announced a total ban on consuming tobacco and tobacco products in public places. It will be considered a serious offence, and a criminal case will be filed against the violator and a penalty imposed.Â
Speaking at a news conference, Minister of Health and Family Welfare B Sriramulu said anyone caught smoking in public places in the state will be prosecuted under Sections 188, 268, 269 and 270 of the IPC.
The minister’s announcement coincides with World Tobacco Free Day, which is observed every year on May 31.
