Bengaluru: Karnataka Sugarcane Development, Sugar, Textiles and Agricultural Marketing Minister Shivanand Patil has approved procurement of sunflower crop under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme for the 2025-26 rabi season at a rate of ₹7,721 per quintal.

The Minister has directed officials to open procurement centres based on local requirements in 11 districts across the state in accordance with the Central Government’s MSP guidelines.

The districts identified for procurement are: Bagalkot, Belagavi, Ballari, Vijayapura, Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Vijayanagara, Raichur, Dharwad.

Under the procurement arrangement, the Central Government has appointed NAFED and NCCF as procurement agencies, while the Karnataka Cooperative Oilseeds Growers Federation has been designated as the state-level procurement agency.

Registration and Procurement Timeline

The government has fixed:

  • 50 days for farmer registration
  • 60 days for procurement operations

District Collectors, who are chairpersons of the district-level task force committees, have been instructed to begin procurement simultaneously with the registration process to avoid delays.

Storage and Farmer Convenience

The Minister directed officials to establish procurement centres in rural areas by partnering with organisations that have scientifically managed warehouses and technical storage facilities to ensure smooth procurement and storage operations.

Authorities have also been instructed to make necessary preparations in advance to avoid technical or administrative issues during registration and procurement.

Warning Against Misuse

Shivanand Patil cautioned officials against misuse of procurement centres by traders or agencies operating in the names of farmers.

He also directed district authorities and procurement agencies to submit daily procurement progress reports to the Karnataka government and the Karnataka State Agricultural Marketing Board.

The move is expected to provide price support and market stability for sunflower growers across major oilseed-producing regions of the state.
