BENGALURU:

With Karnataka witnessing a declining trend in Covid cases, the state government has done a balancing act by easing some of the existing restrictions. However, not wanting to take any chances, the government has also maintained status quo on an equal number of curbs.

On Saturday evening, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced the following relaxations and restrictions, that will be in place for the next 15 days from Monday, July 5 onwards. They are:

  1. Theatres/cinema halls and pubs will remain closed.
  2. Swimming pools are permitted only for competitive training purposes.
  3. Sports complexes and stadia will be open only for purposes of practice.
  4. All social/political/sports/entertainment/academic/cultural/religious functions/ other gatherings and large congregations are prohibited.
  5. Marriages/family functions are permitted to be conducted involving not more than 100 people.
  6. Cremations/funerals to be allowed with maximum of 20 people.
  7. Religious places are allowed to open only for ‘darshan’. No ‘seva’ allowed.
  8. Public transport allowed to operate up to seating capacity.
  9. All shops, restaurants, malls, private offices, closed places to strictly enforce Covid-appropriate behaviour, failing which action will be initiated under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
  10. All educational intuitions/tutorials/colleges remain closed until further orders.

In addition to the above measures, statewide night curfew will continue from 9 pm to 5 am everyday.

DCs’ discretion 

Deputy Commissioners of districts, based on their assessment of the situation and after consultation with the district-in-charge Minister, may impose additional containment measures, the CM said.

In force till July 19 

According to the order issued by Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar, the new measures will come into effect from 6 am on Monday, July 5, and will be in force including and upto 6 am on Monday, July 19.  

The order calls for strict implementation of the measures by the Chief Commissioner, BBMP, Police Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and other heads of department and authorities.  

Vigil on arrivals 

The CS’s order says special surveillance measures for persons coming from Maharashtra and Kerala will continue to be in force.
