Karnataka Honoured by Centre for Massive DigiLocker Integration; Over 2.7 Crore Citizens Using Services
New Delhi/Bengaluru: Karnataka has been recognised by the Government of India for its outstanding contribution towards large-scale integration of DigiLocker with government services, emerging as one of the top-performing states in digital governance initiatives across the country.
The recognition was conferred during the National Consultative Workshop on Strengthening Cybersecurity Frameworks for State Data held on May 11, 2026, where the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) felicitated five states for exemplary implementation of DigiLocker integration. Karnataka was honoured alongside Gujarat, Kerala, Nagaland and Rajasthan.
The felicitation was presented by Shri Nand Kumarum, Joint Secretary, Digital Governance Division, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and President & CEO of NeGD, in the presence of senior officials from MeitY, CERT-In and NIC.
Karnataka Leads in DigiLocker Adoption
According to officials, Karnataka has successfully onboarded nearly 73% of government e-services onto DigiLocker, marking a major milestone in the stateās āDigital Karnatakaā initiative.
The state also recorded the highest number of DigiLocker accounts in the country, with more than 2.7 crore citizens actively using the platform and its services.
Officials highlighted that Karnataka rapidly integrated all five electricity distribution companies (Discoms) with DigiLocker, enabling digitisation of nearly 3 crore electricity bill records.
Boost to Citizen-Centric Governance
The Centre noted that Karnatakaās large-scale DigiLocker integration has significantly improved citizen access to government documents and services while reducing dependency on physical verification processes.
The initiative is part of Indiaās broader push towards strengthening Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and creating secure, interoperable and citizen-friendly governance systems.
National Recognition for Digital Governance
The National e-Governance Division stated that DigiLocker integration across states has helped simplify service delivery, improve transparency and enhance ease of living for citizens.
Speaking during the event, Shri Nand Kumarum emphasised that collaborative digital governance and citizen-centric digital platforms such as DigiLocker are central to Indiaās vision of trusted and secure digital governance.
The Government of India reiterated its commitment to building scalable, secure and interoperable digital governance systems while encouraging states to accelerate adoption of digital public service platforms.
