Bengaluru: In a major push towards digital governance and citizen convenience, the Greater Bengaluru Authority is set to introduce an online khata correction facility, allowing residents to rectify property record errors seamlessly.

Announcing the initiative, Special Commissioner of the Revenue Department, Munish Moudgil, said the move aims to improve service delivery, enhance transparency, and make the system more user-friendly for citizens. He was addressing a press conference at the GBA head office in Bengaluru.

Under the proposed system, citizens will be able to correct errors in their khata details online without delays. While key fields such as owner name and property dimensions will remain restricted, other details including location, ward number, and related entries can be modified by users directly. This is expected to significantly reduce dependency on manual processes and eliminate unnecessary delays.

Providing an update on the ongoing e-Khata rollout, Moudgil revealed that around 25 lakh draft khata applications have been submitted online so far. Of these, more than 10 lakh citizens have already received their final e-Khata certificates. Officials stated that, in cases where documentation is complete and accurate, final e-Khatas are being issued within an average of five days.

Highlighting the efficiency of the digital system, he noted that over 1,000 applications are being received daily, with an average of one e-Khata being issued every 30 seconds. This rapid processing reflects the scale and effectiveness of the digital transformation underway.

Addressing concerns related to rejected applications, Moudgil said a dedicated rejection audit team has been constituted to review such cases. The team is re-examining rejected applications and facilitating approvals wherever discrepancies are resolved, ensuring fairness and accuracy in the process.

In another key reform, the authority has implemented an automatic mutation system to reduce delays in property ownership transfers. Transactions registered at sub-registrar offices will now trigger automatic mutation. Once the mandatory notice period is completed, the mutation process will be finalized, and citizens will receive SMS notifications on the seventh day.

The system is also being extended to inheritance (succession) cases to avoid delays in transferring property ownership to legal heirs. Officials believe that these reforms will streamline property record management and strengthen Bengaluru’s digital civic infrastructure.
