Bengaluru: A 73-year-old retired ISRO employee was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly strangling his wife to death at their residence under the jurisdiction of the Avallahalli Police Station in east Bengaluru.
According to police, the incident occurred around 11 am. The accused, identified as Nageshwar Rao, allegedly used a towel to choke his wife, Sandhya Sri (63), inside their home. Officers said he remained at the scene after the incident, following which acquaintances alerted the police.
A police team rushed to the residence and took Rao into custody. Preliminary investigation suggests that he had been suffering from depression and was undergoing treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) Saidu Adavath stated that the accused reportedly expressed a desire to end his own life after the incident. The coupleโs daughter, who resides in the United States, has been informed about the development.
A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
