Bengaluru, February 18: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday asserted that no individual or group can take the law into their own hands, responding to ongoing tensions surrounding civic administration and the invocation of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA).

Speaking to reporters near the KPCC office, Shivakumar reacted to a statement by MLA Dheeraj Muniraj, who had said they were prepared to face action under ESMA in connection with the garbage disposal issue. “That is fine. We will do what needs to be done,” the Deputy Chief Minister said, maintaining that the government would handle the matter as per law.

When asked about the Department of Information and Public Relations (DPIAR) order restricting media access to designated areas within Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar clarified that DPIAR does not fall under his direct jurisdiction. “I do not have information regarding that order. I will examine the matter and inform you,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks come amid heightened political exchanges over civic management and administrative decisions in the state.
