Bengaluru: A two-year-old child was killed in a tragic road accident in Mahadevapura, East Bengaluru, sparking massive protests by local residents who blamed the deteriorating condition of the road and prolonged repair works for the fatality.

The victim, identified as Trishul, had reportedly visited a temple with relatives on the occasion of Shivaratri. While returning home, the motorcycle they were travelling on was hit by a car. The impact caused the child to fall onto the road, after which the car allegedly ran over him, leading to his death on the spot.

Residents of Kittanur Gram Panchayat limits, particularly Halahalli Main Road, erupted in anger, alleging that the stretch has remained in poor condition for over five to six years. They claimed that ongoing road repair works have been left incomplete for months without proper barricades, warning boards, or safety measures.

Locals stated that this was not an isolated incident but the fifth fatality on the same stretch in recent years. They alleged that hundreds of accidents have occurred due to potholes, uneven surfaces, and lack of traffic regulation.

In protest, residents blocked the main road demanding immediate repair works and accountability from officials. Protesters accused authorities of ignoring repeated complaints and failing to act despite multiple accidents.

The road falls under Mahadevapura Assembly constituency and Kittanur Gram Panchayat jurisdiction. However, according to residents, neither local representatives nor Panchayat officials had visited the spot even hours after the incident.

Police from Avalahalli Police Station reached the site and attempted to disperse the protesters, but residents refused to clear the road until written assurances were provided regarding immediate repairs.

The stretch is reportedly used daily by school children, elderly citizens, and commuters, including access routes to several international schools in the area. Protesters warned that unless urgent action is taken, more lives could be lost.

Residents demanded that the government intervene immediately and complete the long-pending road repair work to prevent further tragedies in Bengaluru’s rapidly expanding eastern corridor.
