Bengaluru: The Karnataka Cabinet has granted approval for conducting IPL matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil announced on Thursday following the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha.
Addressing the media, Patil stated that the Home Department has been entrusted with issuing a special order outlining mandatory conditions for hosting matches at the stadium. The order will be based on the recommendations of the expert committee led by Justice Michael DโCunha and Maheshwar Rao, focusing on safety, crowd management, and infrastructure preparedness.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also confirmed the decision, stating that the government has permitted cricket matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium in the interest of youth and cricket enthusiasts.
He clarified that the approval comes with strict conditions, including limiting ticket sales strictly to the stadiumโs seating capacity, ensuring adequate large entry and exit gates based on crowd requirements, deploying ambulances, and implementing enhanced safety protocols as recommended in the committeeโs report.
โThis is good news for cricket lovers. We regret the inconvenience and disappointment faced earlier. We lost a prestigious tournament, but we will remain vigilant going forward,โ Shivakumar said.
The decision is expected to revive Bengaluruโs status as a key IPL venue while ensuring that crowd safety and emergency preparedness remain top priorities.
